Formal external trade in Goods report (Q2,2024)

In the second quarter of 2024, Rwanda’s total trade was US$ 2,519.58 million, an increase of 14.67 percent over the second quarter of 2023. Domestic exports were US$ 541.10 million; imports were US$ 1,814.47 million and re-exports were US$ 164 million.

The top five export destinations were the United Arab Emirates, the Democratic Republic of Congo, China, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom. The commodity groups with the largest export values were, “Other commodities & transactions, n.e.s” (US$ 350.85 million), “Food and live animals” (US$ 77.41 million) and “Crude materials, inedible, except fuels” (US$ 56.38 million).

In quarter 2, 2024, total domestic exports increased by 11.65 percent when compared to the second quarter of 2023 (US$ 541.10 million and US$ 484.64 million respectively) and increased by 23.32 percent when compared to the first quarter of 2024. 

Total imports of Rwanda increased by 17.19 percent in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter of 2023 (US$ 1,814.47 million and US$ 1548.30 million respectively) and by 2.58 percent over the first quarter of 2024.

 Re-exports decreased by 0.14 percent in the second quarter of 2024 over the same quarter of 2023 (US$ 164.00 million and US$ 164.23 million respectively) and by 4.03 percent compared to the first quarter of 2024.
