The 2017 Seasonal Agricultural Survey (SAS) covers  the agricultural seasons for the year 2018 in Rwanda. The datasource is expected to cover three agricultural seasons (A, B and C) for the year 2016 in Rwanda.

NISR conducted the 2018 Seasonal Agricultural Survey (SAS) covering all three agricultural seasons of Rwanda. Field work was scheduled as follows: Season A, from 10th December 2017 to 30th January 2018; Season B, from 29th April to 19th July 2018; and Season C, from 4th to 24th September 2018. Data collection was done in 780 segments and 222 large scale farmers holdings.

SAS 2018 results indicate that, comparing with Season A 2017 estimates, in season A 2018 there was an increase of cultivated area for maize (4%), wheat (36%), Irish potato (33%), beans 7%, pea (61%) and soybean (8%), while the cultivated area decreased for sorghum (-9%), cassava (-11%), yams and taro (-68%) banana (-6%), groundnut (-18%), vegetables (-31%) and fruits (-9%).Sweet potato and paddy rice cultivated area remained slightly the same. In season B 2018, crops that increased in cultivated area are sorghum and wheat (4%), cassava (15%), Irish potato (32%), banana, peas and groundnuts increased by 3% respectively, while there was a decrease of cultivated area for maize ( 8%), paddy rice (-3%), sweet potato (-6%), yams ad taro (-12%), beans (-3%) compared to 2017 season B estimates.

In 2018 Season A, for small scale farmers, pesticides were applied in 19.5% of all cultivated plots while for Large Scale Farmers pesticides were applied in 67.7% of all cultivated plots.
