In quarter 2, GDP at current market prices was estimated at Frw 5,798 billion, up from Frw 4,966 billion in 2024 Q2. Services contributed 50% to GDP, agriculture contributed 23% while industry contributed 21%. Net direct taxes accounted for 5%.

In the second quarter of 2025, GDP grew by 7.8%, following the growth rate of 10.2% in the second quarter of 2024.

Growth in sectors were as follows:

  • Agriculture increased by 8%.
  • Industry increased by 7%.
  • Services increased by 9%.

Agriculture

The overall performance of agriculture sector was 8% and contributed 1.7 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. 

Within agriculture, food crops production increased by 3%. The export crops production increased by 42%.

Industry 

The overall growth of industry was 7% and contributed 1.5 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within industry, mining and quarrying increased by 12%, construction activities increased by 5%, while manufacturing activities increased by 8%.

The growth in manufacturing was boosted by a 10% growth in food processing, a 19% increase in manufacturing of metal products, machinery and equipment, a 24% growth in manufacturing of chemicals, rubber and plastic products, and a 23% growth in manufacturing of nonmetallic minerals (mainly cement). On the other hand, the manufacturing of textiles, clothing & leather decreased by 9% while beverages and tobacco decreased by 4%.

Services

The overall growth of the services sector was 9% and contributed 4.3 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within services, wholesale and retail trade increased by 13%; transport activities increased by 5% with air transport decreased by 13%, while land transport grew by 10%. 

Among other services, hotels and restaurants decreased by 7% following a high growth of 18% in the same quarter of 2024. Financial services increased by 8%, and information and communication services increased by 11%, public administration increased by 16%, education services increased by 5% while health services increased by 10%.
