Duties and responsibilities:
The department of Statistical Methods, Research and Publications (SMRP) is responsible mainly for:
- Coordinating the National Statistical System (NSS) including preparation and implementation of National Strategies for the Development of Statistics (NSDSs); compiling and disseminating statistics of SDGs indicators, compiling and disseminating the “Rwanda Statistical yearbook” with Facts and Figures, subscription to e-GDDS and SDDS;
- promoting the methodologies, norms and standards for the production and dissemination of official statistics;
- evaluating Imihigo at central and local government;
- developping NSS capacities for production and dissemination of official statistics
To accomplish its mission, the Statistical Methods, Research and Publications Department is headed by a director and is organized into the following four sections and staff :

Director (a.i):

Kayitesi Claudette has been serving as the Acting Director of the Statistical Methods, Research, and Publications (SMRP) Department since August 2024.
Prior to this role, she was the Training Center Manager from January 2022 to July 2024, where she played a key role in strengthening statistical capacity building. Before that, she served as a Training Specialist from November 2020 to December 2022, contributing to the development and implementation of training programs.
She holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the Open University of Tanzania. Before joining the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), she was an Assistant Lecturer at the Catholic Institute of Kabgayi and a Part-Time Assistant Lecturer at Kigali Independent University.
With her extensive experience in statistical capacity building, research, and training, Kayitesi continues to lead the SMRP Department in advancing statistical methodologies, quality assurance, and the coordination of the National Statistical System.
