Formal external trade in Goods report (Q3,2024)

In the third quarter of 2024, Rwanda’s total trade was US$ 2,982.66 million, an increase of 41 percent over the third quarter of 2023. Domestic exports were estimated at US$ 653.85 million; imports were estimated at US$ 2,144.23 million and re-exports were estimated at US$ 184.59 million.

In the second quarter of 2024, Rwanda’s total trade was US$ 2,519.58 million, an increase of 14.67 percent over the second quarter of 2023. Domestic exports were US$ 541.10 million; imports were US$ 1,814.47 million and re-exports were US$ 164 million.

In the first quarter of 2024, Rwanda’s total trade was US$ 2,378.52 million, an increase of 16.21 percent over the first quarter of 2023. Domestic exports are US$ 438.78 million; imports were US$ 1,768.85 million and re-exports were US$ 170.89 million.

In  Q3, 2024, the top five export destinations were the United Arab Emirates, the Democratic Republic of Congo, China, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom.

In terms of re-exports, the top five destinations were the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, Burundi and Uganda. Democratic Republic of Congo accounted for 94.60 percent of Rwanda’s total re-exports. 

The most re-exported commodity group in Q3, 2024 was “Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials” (US$ 53.74 million) followed by “Food and live animals” (US$ 52.22 million).

In terms of total imports (CIF); China, Tanzania, Kenya, India and Cameroon were the top five countries of origin of imports to Rwanda.
